Media Format Guide
VHS Quality: Low-Medium / Capacity: 2 hours S-VHS or SuperVHS look like standard VHS tapes but the video quality is higher and a special SVHS marked VCR is required to play this format. They are incompatible with standard VHS VCRs. Quality: Medium-High / Capacity: 2 hours DVD a completely digital medium that is used to store computer data including digital video files up to 4.7GB. They are currently most popular in the movie industry. They can be played in set-top standalone DVD players or in computers with a DVD disc drive AND DVD player software installed. Most new notebook computers are sold with the necessary equipment for playing DVDs. Quality: High-Very High / Capacity 2 hours CD a completely digital medium that is used to store computer data including digital video files up to 700MB. Most commonly used with MPEG-1 or also known as VCDs. Ideal for copying to a hard drive and using with synchronized video. VCDs can be played in set-top standalone DVD players or in computers. Quality: Low-High (depending on length) / Capacity: 1-2 hours MPEG-1 the video encoding protocol used for compressing video. VCDs and SYNC CDs use this video format. Quality: Low-High (depending on length MPEG-2 the video encoding protocol used for DVDs. Similar to MPEG-1 but a better quality. Quality: High-Very High SYNC MPEG-1 video and transcript synchronized together for preparation and playback. It includes an application for playing back and editing your deposition video on a computer. It's primary use is video clip location and creation. More information (mini) DV stands for Digital Video. It is the format used in our video cameras. There are both full-size and mini DV tapes. This is uncompressed video and can only be played back in other mini DV cameras or special DV VCRs. |
